It's a beautiful place, at every turn as stunning as I'd hoped, but the things that Westerners have the most sentimentality towards are vanishing. With each generation the country is loosing the magic that made it so enticing. Some of that is the inevitable globalization of even the most remote corners of our world but in this case it's mostly state sponsored by China. A cultural whitewashing. That said, despite the almost Disney-esque way the monasteries are treated, their centuries old Buddhist heritage is still the strongest single force in Tibet.
I'm happiest when documenting cultures not my own. If you have a project in mind, let's talk.
